“The success of initiatives such as the Web3 Innovation Festival 2023 will contribute to promote the island as a leading destination in quality and sustainability.”
Vicente Mari Torres,
President of the Council of Ibiza

THE PROBLEM
Tourism accounts for more than 84% of Ibiza’s GDP and is a critical component to the Island. However, the effects of this monoculture business to nature, the local ecosystem and inhabitants also needs to be addressed. The 2023 Web3 Innovation Festival, dubbed the space for effecting change in Ibiza island post-pandemic, will take place from March to November. The festival's focus is to demonstrate how tourism can still thrive in Ibiza without the typical negative effects.
BACKGROUND
For decades, Ibiza has been the go-to tourist hub for those who wish to indulge in all the Island has to offer, from its beautiful beaches to deep roots in music and club culture. The world looks to Ibiza as a trendsetter, whether it's music, fashion or luxury experiences. The idea of taking Ibiza into the future would have the eyes of the world, waiting to experience the transition. Unfortunately, today, the renowned Island is on the brink of losing its glory as a leading tourist destination as more pressure has been continuously exerted on the already scarce resources. The growth of tourism, which was once a blessing for many years, is now turning out to be a disaster, with locals taking to the streets to protest against what they term "over-tourism." What’s more saddening is that 50% of tourists, including the 2 million who visited Ibiza in 2022, say they will unlikely come back. Unless the problem is mitigated through a collective initiative as early as now, we risk losing it all—the island, the local people, and all flora and fauna.
OBJECTIVES
The Web3 Innovation Festival 2023, the first one of its kind, is designed to help transform Ibiza Island into a sustainable tourist hub that meets the UN sustainable goals and is good for tourists, locals and the environment. By the end of the Festival, you'll have an in-depth understanding of how tourism can still thrive despite the typical and negative effects of this monoculture business. The event takes a Web3 approach, thanks to the technology’s potential to advance sustainability initiatives across the board. Since Web3 started gaining mainstream attention, experts have addressed an array of themes surrounding the technology, including parametric crop insurance for protecting farmers, open digital infrastructure for advancing carbon capture, and beyond-the-grid energy solutions for serving remote communities.
WHY ATTEND?
Building a sustainable and malleable model for change empowers you to elevate yourself and be part of the bigger legacy of the empowerment of the Ibiza community and its creative economy.
As we also align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as adopted by the United Nations Member States in 2015, it is the objective of Web3 Innovation Festival 2023 to help eradicate poverty and hunger, foster gender equality, empower women and girls, promote equal human rights, and, most importantly, protect the planet and its natural resources continually.

The Web3 Innovation Festival 2023 promotes the following SDGs as envisioned in the organization’s 2030 agenda:
